Find out what it is like to hook a Texas tarpon on the Texas Tarpon Experience page.
Texas boasted prime tarpon fishing during
the first half of the century, and "tarpon rodeos" were popular up and down the
Texas coast, but in the 1950's the sport died. Most people say the fish disappeared, but
can't explain why. Some claim that the fish were here all along and that only the
fishermen were gone. In either case, tarpon fishing was virtually nonexistent for the next
20 years. Then, in the 1970's, local tarpon started making a comeback. Over the years
they have established themselves once again as a dependable option, but have
never appealed to the mainstream fisherman like they once did. As a
result, many fishermen looking to jump their first tarpon are new to the
game. This web site exists to serve as a source of information for the newcomers
as well as the old hands interested
in (or addicted to) fishing for Texas tarpon, and provide a place for them to
meet, learn, and share ideas.
